I sit here alone as waves of paranoia wash over me
As I ponder the video reality that has been transformed before me on the TV.
Finger pointing in blame, those responsible for the tragedies of the world
Continue to try and convince millions of their veracity
And the sense of honor that they pretend to represent.
I am sickened by what I see … what I hear: but I cannot turn away
Somehow I’m not allowed … I am riveted to the seat of honor.

It is like the magic box I’m watching has an attached magnet
That prevents anyone from doing so lest they miss something
That would be a serious transgression
It is like committing a grievous sin to walk away from the sins that are being shown.
Disaster, famine, murder, suicide, annihilation …
Brother against brother in a viciously tangled web that attempts to gain power over others

What do I believe?
Is what I see the truth or a fixed version of what reality should represent?
What I hear … is it accurate or just someone’s perception of their own reality?
What can I do?
I feel so helpless especially when I am asked to help the helpless.
This conundrum represents itself every day … on every channel
And for some, it is a twenty-four hour episode … a never-ending representation of life
At its very worst the episodes erode at the very fabric of faith and hope
That help maintain our sense of limited sanity on a day-to-day basis.

Unfortunately, it is no longer just frightening
Because it has become a commonplace message … a way of life for all of us
Where is the positive?
Should I just turn the box off and preoccupy my mind with something else?
Should I try to protect those whom I love from being tainted by this information sniper?
Sometimes recollecting the memories of says past … when life seemed much simpler
Those thought tend to salve the wounds of my mind and provide some temporary relief.

I cannot run away.
I must call upon all that I believe, value, and stand tall against the riveting negativity
That surrounds me … that surround all of us.
I need to be a voice of reason … of hope … of trust
The outcome will ultimately depend on those of us who can provide that sense of strength
And not on the naysayers and proponents of change for the sake of change
With no ‘greater good’ being their purpose
Look to history … my mind cries out … look to history for the answer
All of life has repetitious lessons … some more drastic and disastrous than others
However, life as we know it must endure and new beginnings will bring us into another
Relative sense of peace, harmony and balance
You have to believe!
