In our journey of making our WordPress website awesome using various WordPress Plugins, we’ve already seen how to embed images into our blog posts or pages. Today, we’re going to see how we can embed audio files into the content of your WordPress website.
As usual, WordPress has a method of embedding audio files already built-in. But if you are looking for more customization, then we have plenty of plugins to choose from. So, let’s begin.
WordPress Built-in: Embed Audio Files
As mentioned before, WordPress has an easy to use built-in method for embedding audio files into your website’s content. It’s as easy as looking for the ‘Add Media’ button in the editing pane, and either linking to an existing file on the Internet, or uploading your own audio file.
The process is quite similar to inserting an image using the built-in image uploader. However, the results you get may not be quite what you are looking for. This just ends up giving a link to your audio file within the content. So if your website’s viewers are looking to download your audio file (by right-clicking on that link), then it works perfect. It also works if one clicks on the link – one is then taken to a page where one can listen to the audio file.
But what if you want to play the file right within your content? Don’t fret, because there are a variety of plugins available that can help you achieve this result.
WordPress Plugins to Embed Audio Files With an Audio Player
There are several plugins that can help you embed your audio file with a built-in audio player so that your site’s viewers can listen to your audio file right within your content. Today, I am going to review 2 such plugins for you.
The first plugin is called ‘Audio Player’ and can be easily found from within the search bar in ‘Add New’ page under the ‘Plugins’ menu. Once you install it, all you have to do is use the following shortcode to embed your audio file and you’re all set!
Another plugin that you can try out is called ‘Compact WP Audio Player’. Click here to read more about this plugin, and its various features. From the ‘screenshot’ tab, you can even find a link to the plugin developer’s website, where you can also see a video of how the plugin works.
How and Why This is Useful
Embedding audio files into your website’s content can serve many purposes. If you have some kind of a personal message that you want your site’s visitors to listen to, then this ability can really help you reach out to a large amount of people.
If you are a singer or a musician – then I don’t have to elaborate on how this can work for you! You can put up short previews of your music to help your site’s viewers decide that they want to buy your music.
As a writer, this can enable you to reach out to your readers in a more personal way.
Essentially, there are no limits to what you can do with this feature in WordPress.
Go ahead and brainstorm about the various ways you can reach out to your audience via an audio file!
